We were asked to do a project inspired by old arcade games
The project & My impact
Circumstances
This was our first big team project at Futuregames, we made
some mistakes and learned a lot.
I feature this project to showcase existence of my unity skills as well as a bit of C# code magic.
The game is small so I will not go into details that much.
Idea
Lunar Defender is a tower defense inspired by Space Invaders and early 2000's mobile classic Gravity Defied.
The player controls an advanced space rover with an ability to fly within the orbit around the planet.
Round planet was a nightmare to implement and design around, during first playtests it also has caused motion sickness to some, but in the end it was perceived as a fun mechanic and was well received.
The player has to defend 3 bases on each third of the planet from waves of invading forces.
Each base can be upgraded with materials found on the planet. The player can land on the base to increase its defense capabilities.
Sprinkle of Creativity
After some playtests, I've suggested an idea called "flux highway" - at the edge of the orbit there is a "railroad" around the planet.
Depending on the angle of entrance, it moves the player clockwise or counterclockwise around the level.
The player can catapult itself at any point. This helped a lot with solving the tediousness of long distance exploration.
Audio
The sound has been implemented through scriptable objects and it wasn't a pleasant experience...
